Pan Pacific Whistler Village Centre
What we like about this all-suite hotel is how easily it handles a Whistler ski...
In Whistler, distance to the lifts is measured in footsteps, and the Sundial Hotel wins that contest. It stands on Sundial Crescent at the foot of Whistler Mountain, right by the Skiers Plaza, where the Whistler Village Gondola and the Excalibur Gondola begin. On a powder morning, that proximity is everything: coffee in the suite, boots on, and a short walk to the first cabin. In the evening the logic reverses, and skiers come back down to a suite with a fire already easy to light. The building is modest in scale, eight floors and 49 suites, and it feels more like a well-run private residence than a resort complex.
We chose the Sundial because it answers the real question of a mountain stay: how to live comfortably between two days on the slopes. Every suite has a full kitchen, a gas fireplace, a separate living room and heated floors in the bathroom, so a week here feels like having a place in town. Eight suites add their own private outdoor hot tub, something the hotel presents as unique in Whistler Village, and the rooftop hot tub is open to all guests. Then there is the location, among the very closest to the gondolas, which makes the rest easy.
The hotel sits at the southern edge of Whistler Village, at the point where the pedestrian Village Stroll meets the base of Whistler Mountain. The gondolas are steps away, the ski-out runs finish close by, and the village's restaurants, shops and après-ski terraces surround the building. In summer the same position gives direct access to the Whistler Mountain Bike Park and to the valley's walking trails, with Lost Lake a pleasant walk or ride away. Guests arriving by car along the Sea-to-Sky Highway from Vancouver can leave it in the underground garage for the whole stay, since everything is within walking distance.

The one-bedroom suites range from about 500 to 600 square feet and sleep four, with a king bed and a queen sofa bed in the living room. Mountain View suites look straight at the gondolas and the ski-out area, while Valley View suites face the village and the surrounding range. The two-bedroom suites sleep six and reach around 800 square feet in the premium categories. Throughout, the kitchens come with granite counters and fir cabinetry, and the bathrooms have tubs, a welcome detail after a long day.
This is where the Sundial stands apart. Its private hot tub suites place a tub on a balcony or a patio, some on the third and sixth floors overlooking the Village Stroll, others on the seventh and eighth floors looking out to Rainbow and Sproat mountains. Soaking outdoors while snow falls, a few steps from the living room, is the kind of experience most visitors to Whistler only find in a private chalet. Here it comes with a front desk, concierge and ski valet downstairs.
The Sundial is not only a winter address. From late spring, the same gondolas carry hikers to the alpine trails and to the Peak 2 Peak experience, and the Whistler Mountain Bike Park starts just beside the hotel. Bike storage, e-bike charging and a wash station make it a practical base for riders, and the kitchen suites keep a family budget in check through a longer summer stay.
